Lean Six Sigma Belts
There are six Six Sigma Belt levels. They range from a general idea of the principles right up to complete mastery.
You do not necessarily have to start at the White Belt level. Organizations usually have a mix of skill levels, and many candidates start at either Yellow or Green.
White
A white belt understands how Six Sigma works. They know the terminology to use and when and can communicate effectively to others working on projects with or around them.
Usually, almost everyone in a company will be at least White Belt certified when an organization adopts Six Sigma.
Yellow
Yellow belts have mastered the Six Sigma foundation. They know how the program works and actively contribute to the improvement of processes. Typically, Yellow Belts report to a Green Belt or higher.
Green
Green Belts are usually project managers and can manage improvement projects. They are confident in their understanding of the Six Sigma Process and can implement it in their daily work.
Black
Black Belts are masters of cross-functional process improvements. Typically, they come from the Green Belt level and are mentors to the lower levels. They focus on savings and improvements and have experience working with Lean Six Sigma.
Master Black Belt
Master Black belts have achieved mastery over very advanced Six Sigma processes and concepts. In addition, they focus on organizational strategy and work with Black Belts across the organization to lead process improvement.
Champion
The Six Sigma champion is there to support and nurture the other belts and improvement processes. A champion comes from the ranks of the leadership team and is fully invested in the Six Sigma culture.
Six Sigma Certification Cost
The question of cost is a complex one. As with most courses and certifications, Six Sigma has varying cost levels depending on organizational structure and requirements.
Every organization is different and has a particular path to success. Therefore, it’s crucial to work with a provider that will give you a complete Lean Six Sigma roadmap to make sure you achieve your goals.
Typically, the actual exam and certification cost is not too bad – anywhere from $244 for the Yellow Belt up to $538 for the Black Belt and $2,229 for the Master Black Belt.
However, remember that before you can get certified, you will need to complete training. Sitting a Six Sigma certification exam without going through the courses won’t serve the organization very well.
